Zakeke vs Customily vs Bespo: Honest 2026 Comparison

If you're shortlisting Shopify personalization apps in 2026, three names dominate the consideration set: Zakeke, Customily, and Bespo. Most merchants narrow to two of these within an hour of researching, then spend a week trying to decide.

This piece is the comparison we'd want to read if we were on the other side of the table. Bespo makes one of these apps, so this isn't a neutral review — but it's an honest one. We'll tell you when Zakeke is the right answer, when Customily is, and when Bespo is, with specifics on price, setup, rendering quality, and the operational pain points each one carries.

TL;DR — which one should you pick?

  • Pick Zakeke if you sell complex products needing true 3D rotation (eyewear, furniture, custom luggage), have a developer or agency, and have $300+/month in budget.
  • Pick Customily if you're a POD-first store on Printful or Printify selling primarily T-shirts, mugs, and posters, and price matters more than rendering quality.
  • Pick Bespo if you want a 5-minute setup, native Shopify integration, the highest live-preview fidelity on the market, and the broadest technique support (engraving, embossing, deboss, embroidery, print, monogram) without paying enterprise rates.

The rest of this post is the detail behind that.

Zakeke: when it's the right answer

Zakeke is the original heavyweight in 3D product customisation on Shopify. It's been around the longest, has the deepest 3D feature set, and is the default recommendation if you genuinely need 3D rotation.

Where Zakeke wins

  • True 3D rendering with rotation, zoom, and AR preview on mobile
  • CAD-grade fidelity for products where the customer needs to see every angle (eyewear, watches, complex bags)
  • Wide fulfilment integrations across major POD and on-demand manufacturing networks
  • Mature feature set with conditional logic for power users
  • Strong enterprise support

Where Zakeke falls short

  • Setup is non-trivial. Most merchants need 2–3 hours minimum and many need a developer. The 3D model preparation step in particular is where stores get stuck.
  • Loads heavier. The JS payload is meaningful — measurable LCP impact on mid-range mobile devices.
  • UI feels separate from Shopify. It works, but it looks and behaves like a third-party widget rather than a native part of the storefront.
  • 3D assets are expensive. If you don't already have CAD-grade 3D models of your products, you'll spend $500–2000 per SKU to produce them.
  • Overpowered for simple use cases. If you just want to let shoppers add a name to a wallet, Zakeke is using a sledgehammer.

Where Zakeke is genuinely the right answer

  • Eyewear, sunglasses
  • Custom luggage with 50+ option combinations
  • Furniture where rotation and material visualisation matter
  • Watches with full 3D caseback engraving
  • Sporting goods (bikes, skis) where shoppers want to see the configured product from every angle

If you're not in one of those categories, Zakeke is usually overkill. The 3D capability you'd be paying for would mostly go unused.

Customily: when it's the right answer

Customily built its reputation around print-on-demand. It's the path of least resistance if your fulfilment lives entirely inside Printful or Printify.

Where Customily wins

  • Deepest POD integration in the category — especially Printful, where the integration is essentially first-party in feel
  • Strong template library for apparel POD products
  • Reasonable starting price ($29/mo)
  • Mature, reliable — it does what it does without surprising you

Where Customily falls short

  • Rendering quality is dated. Print mockups look flat. Apparel previews look stylised rather than realistic.
  • Theme integration feels like a widget. The customizer block is recognisably third-party.
  • Weak beyond print. Engraving, embossing, and deboss support is limited compared to Bespo and Zakeke.
  • UI is slower than newer apps. The admin in particular feels sluggish compared to Bespo's editor.
  • Embroidery rendering is functional but doesn't match Bespo's stitch-realistic preview.

Where Customily is genuinely the right answer

  • POD-only stores selling T-shirts, mugs, posters, phone cases
  • Stores where the fulfilment partner (especially Printful) is doing 80%+ of orders
  • High-SKU print catalogs where you need consistent template behaviour
  • Merchants for whom price ($29/mo entry) is the deciding factor

If your business is "I sell what Printful makes", Customily is probably the right answer. If your business is "I sell premium personalised products and Printful is one of several fulfilment partners", you'll outgrow it.

Bespo: when it's the right answer

Bespo is newer than Zakeke and Customily and is built around three specific bets:

  1. 5-minute setup with no developer — every other heavyweight customizer takes hours to days
  2. Native Shopify integration — Bespo's customizer looks and feels like part of your theme, not a bolted-on widget
  3. Best-in-class rendering quality — independent UX scoring puts Bespo at 4.5/5 against the category average of 3.9, driven mostly by live preview fidelity

Where Bespo wins

  • Setup speed. Most merchants are live in about 5 minutes. The first product takes that long; subsequent ones take a couple of minutes each.
  • Live preview fidelity. Surface-aware engraving (text follows the curve of a ring), realistic emboss/deboss with proper light and shadow, stitch-realistic embroidery with thread colour palette, all rendered in real time with no perceptible lag.
  • Zero page-load impact. Architected to load asynchronously and not block LCP — meaningful for both conversions and SEO.
  • Native theme integration. The customizer behaves like a Shopify section, not a third-party iframe. Adapts to your theme's typography and colour automatically.
  • Broad technique support. Engraving, embossing, deboss, embroidery, monogram, print text, print image, and all-over print all included from the Pro plan.
  • Real-time price updates. As the customer adds characters, uploads logos, or selects premium options, the price recomputes live. No surprises at checkout.
  • Production-ready file output. Every order generates a clean, fulfilment-ready file automatically.

Where Bespo falls short

  • Conditional logic for power users is limited. If you need rules like "show option C only when options A and B are both set to specific values, and disable option D until then" across hundreds of variants, Zakeke handles this more flexibly today.
  • No in-app support pathway yet. Support is currently via email and scheduled calls. A pop-up help system is on the roadmap but not yet shipped.
  • No true 3D rotation. Bespo uses 2.5D realistic rendering, which looks great for personalisation (engraving on a watch, embroidery on a hoodie) but doesn't let shoppers spin a product 360°. For genuine 3D needs (eyewear, complex bags), Zakeke is the right tool.

Where Bespo is genuinely the right answer

  • DTC and Shopify Plus stores doing $300K–$20M revenue
  • Apparel, jewellery, leather goods, gifting, beauty, home decor
  • Any store that values setup speed and native theme integration
  • Stores using premium fulfilment partners or in-house production where rendering quality matters
  • Stores currently on Zepto or older Customily configurations looking to upgrade

Setup time, in detail

This is one of the more concrete differentiators. A rough breakdown of the steps:

Bespo

  • Install from Shopify App Store: 30 seconds
  • Authorise app and enable theme extension: 1 minute (deep link into Shopify Theme Editor)
  • Configure first product (print area, fonts, pricing): 3–4 minutes
  • Test order: 2 minutes
  • Total: ~5–7 minutes

Customily

  • Install: 30 seconds
  • Authorise and enable: 5–10 minutes
  • Configure first product (more options to think about): 30–60 minutes
  • Set up template if using POD integration: 15–30 minutes
  • Test order and verify file export: 10 minutes
  • Total: ~1–2 hours

Zakeke

  • Install: 30 seconds
  • Authorise: 5 minutes
  • Upload 3D model (if needed) or 2D product images: 30–60 minutes
  • Configure customisation rules: 1–2 hours
  • Set up theme integration (often requires CSS tweaks): 30 minutes
  • Test: 20 minutes
  • Total: 2–3 hours (longer if 3D model prep is involved)

The setup gap matters more than it looks. Most merchants set up a customizer once a year, but every product launch, every theme update, and every seasonal promotion is faster when the underlying tool is faster.

Pricing comparison

Growth plan$99/mo$99/mo$59/mo
Pro/business$299+/mo$199+/mo$99/mo
EnterpriseCustomCustomCustom

The headline numbers favour Customily on absolute price, but the comparison is misleading without context:

  • Bespo's Pro plan ($99) includes all techniques (engraving, embossing, deboss, embroidery, print, monogram) and up to 30 customisable products
  • Zakeke's pricing scales fast once you need 3D for multiple products
  • Customily's pricing scales with order volume on some plans, which can surprise high-volume merchants

For a typical DTC store doing $1M–$5M revenue with 20–30 customisable SKUs, total annual cost runs roughly:

  • Bespo Pro: ~$1,200/year
  • Zakeke equivalent: ~$2,400–3,600/year
  • Customily equivalent: ~$700–1,200/year

Pricing-wise, Customily wins for the smallest stores; Bespo wins for the mid-market sweet spot; Zakeke costs more but justifies it if you genuinely use the 3D capability.

Rendering quality: the thing that actually matters

The single biggest determinant of conversion on personalised products is whether shoppers trust the preview. If they can't trust it, they don't buy.

A rough ranking of rendering quality by technique:

  • Engraving previews: Bespo > Zakeke > Customily. Bespo's surface-aware rendering (text follows ring curves, depth and light are realistic) is meaningfully better than the alternatives.
  • Embroidery previews: Bespo > Zakeke ≈ Customily. Bespo's thread palette and stitch-density control produce previews that look like the actual stitched output.
  • Emboss/deboss previews: Bespo > Zakeke > Customily. Most other apps render emboss as flat text with a drop shadow; Bespo renders it with proper light, shadow, and material interaction.
  • 3D rotation: Zakeke > Bespo ≈ Customily. If you need genuine 3D, Zakeke wins, full stop.
  • Print/POD mockups: Roughly even across all three for standard apparel. Bespo's print rendering looks more current; Customily's library is broader.

The independent UX score (4.5 for Bespo, 3.9 average) captures this — most of the gap comes from rendering fidelity in the preview.

What about other competitors?

Outside Bespo, Zakeke, and Customily, the apps that come up most often are:

  • Teeinblue — apparel-only POD specialist; cheaper, narrower
  • Kickflip — configurator for complex products (furniture, bicycles)
  • Zepto — long-standing low-cost option; rendering is dated
  • Expivi — high-end CAD configurator; enterprise-only pricing

Migration: switching between these apps

If you're already on one of these apps and considering a switch:

Zakeke → Bespo
Most common migration. Reasons: setup complexity, page-speed concerns, cost. Bespo's onboarding includes a guided migration; expect to spend half a day re-configuring your hero products.

Customily → Bespo
Common when stores outgrow POD-only fulfilment and start working with premium partners or in-house production. Rendering quality is usually the trigger.

Bespo → Zakeke
Less common; usually triggered by needing true 3D rotation that Bespo doesn't offer.

Anything → Customily
Rare upgrade path — Customily is usually a starting point, not a destination.

In all migration cases, the playbook is the same:

  1. Install the new app on a Shopify dev theme
  2. Replicate the configuration on 1–2 hero products
  3. Test orders end-to-end with your fulfiller
  4. Swap on production theme during a quiet traffic window
  5. Keep the old app installed for 1–2 weeks in case of rollback

FAQ

Is Zakeke worth the price compared to Bespo?
Only if you genuinely need 3D rotation. For 80% of personalisation use cases (engraving, embroidery, print, monogram), Bespo gives you better rendering at lower cost and faster setup. If you sell eyewear or complex 3D products, Zakeke's premium is justified.

Is Customily cheaper than Bespo?
At the entry tier, yes ($29 vs $39). But the comparison breaks down once you need engraving, embossing, or premium embroidery rendering — Bespo includes more techniques on each plan tier.

Can I run both apps simultaneously while I evaluate?
Yes. Most merchants install the second app on a Shopify dev theme rather than running both on production. Side-by-side evaluation on a real product takes about 30 minutes.

Which app has the best Shopify Plus integration?
All three work with Shopify Plus. Bespo's native theme integration tends to feel cleanest on Plus stores running custom themes. Zakeke's Plus support is enterprise-mature. Customily works on Plus but doesn't take particular advantage of it.

Which app is best for international stores selling in multiple currencies?
All three support Shopify's native multi-currency. Bespo's pricing rules adapt to Shopify's currency settings automatically. Zakeke requires some manual configuration. Customily handles it via Shopify's standard pricing logic.

Will I lose SEO traffic when I migrate between these apps?
No, if you migrate correctly. Personalisation apps don't affect indexable URLs. The only SEO-relevant consideration is page-speed impact — Bespo's zero-load architecture means migrations from heavier apps usually improve Core Web Vitals scores.

How to decide

A 5-question checklist:

  1. Do I need true 3D rotation? Yes → Zakeke. No → continue.
  2. Is Printful or Printify doing 80%+ of my fulfilment? Yes → Customily is a fine choice. No → continue.
  3. Do I need engraving, embossing, or deboss with realistic rendering? Yes → Bespo. No → either Bespo or Customily.
  4. Do I want to be live in under an hour? Yes → Bespo. No → any of the three.
  5. Am I on premium fulfilment partners or in-house production? Yes → Bespo. No → either Customily or Bespo.

If you ended on Bespo more often than not, you can start a 14-day free trial (no credit card required) or book a demo and we'll show you exactly how it would work on your products.
